BIO: JADE GOTAUCO
Artist Jade Gotauco was born
and raised in Jamestown, Rhode Island. She grew up spending much of her
time in her father's store, Newport Scrimshaw Co., on Thames Street in
Newport where she was first exposed to Rhode Island arts and culture. At a
young age, Jade knew she would be an artist. It was in her genetic makeup
to create long lasting mementos of color and
life.

Gotauco is a self taught, award winning artist in Rhode Island and continues to create new works on a regular basis. Currently representing herself as Go Studio, she has proven in a short time that her works are appreciated and accessible to all walks of life. From realism, to surrealism, to portraiture, her works are clear, colorful and most are open to interpretation of the viewer. Jade has donated works to Make A Wish Foundation, Braveheart Rescue, as well as North Kingstown Pet Refuge, and has shown her works in various locations throughout RI and Massachusetts. Her works can also be found in multiple private collections. The most recent work in Jade's portfolio has been focused on combining her written word with the medium of oil on paper and linen. Imagery derived from her poetry, she strives to create a dream-like composition that is accessible to most any mind and heart despite the intimate exploration of her own life. This area of exploration is the vein in which she hopes to follow throughout her artistic career. However, Jade Gotauco has worked many commissioned works from from pet portraiture, to landscapes, and still life realism. Jade is also known for her "deconstructive" works depicting popular New England locations, most commonly the island of Nantucket where she spent a good portion of her childhood. Gotauco is known locally for her pet portraits in oil. Combing her realism with surrealism, she creates an environment for the portrait that depicts the personality of the animal with toys, expressions and trademark locations of RI. Having adopted 4 shelter dogs in her adult life, she expresses a particular passion for rescue dogs and their stories. Her dogs play a role in her life that seeps in to the bright colors and upbeat themes throughout her paintings. Pet Portraiture will always be a passion for the artist to show her appreciation for all furry friends.

Jade declared she would be an artist when she grew up... When we are small, we imagine things, glorious things. She imagined a lofty work space, speckled with paint from end to end. Brushes were everywhere and canvases, painted and unpainted, were packed and stacked against the walls. She pictured herself, jeans covered in paint to declare her purpose, boots to signify she was a strong woman, and messy dark hair protesting the need to brush it daily (again, when we are five, these things mattered to a girl). It was an image many questioned would come true. Of course, it's not that easy. As we grow up, the picture changes. The dream stays the same, but we learn about life, and the obstacles that we will have to face in order to make the "picture" come true. Jade Gotauco uses her love for oil paints and her passion for creation to turn her dreams in to reality, for you to see. Looking closely at life, and reminding us of the little details will will likely miss in our busy lives, she paints what she sees and believes to be beautiful enough to be deserving of its own memento. Gotauco also paints in a world of surrealism and her dreams, something often overlooked. These paintings represent the artist from within, the little girl, the emrging woman. Picture by picture, a dream is being created. If you do not know Jade, you will recognize her by her messy dark hair, painted jeans, and brown worn boots. There may not be an endless supply of paint at her fingertips, or a magnificent, lofty workspace to call her own, but the feeling is the same. It IS a dream come true. |
